What happens in sex therapy?

Judging by some of the emails and calls I have received since actively advertising sex therapy, I think it is safe to assume people aren't always sure what this entails. Just like any other individual or couples therapy you will come and discuss the specific issues that are coming up for you and the goals you have for yourself. As your therapist I will provide you with feedback, education, and do a thorough assessment.

What does the assessment entail?

A sex therapy assessment is similar to individual or marriage counseling. As your therapist I will engage you in an exploration of the problem bringing you to therapy. We will complete a sexual history, a medical history, relationship dynamic exploration, and mental health related assessment. All of these assessments are done with your consent, any questions or suggestions that you do not want to engage with or need to work up toward engaging will be respected.

Ok, Ive been assessed, now what?

After your sex therapy assessment, we will co-create your treatment plan utilizing your goals of therapy. Much of reaching your goals happens between sessions, and you will be given between session "homework".
